Illuminate or Censum as a Service Basic/Pro

We bill you using a 1 month in advance policy, with the first payment date starting the day your subscription starts.

Censum Basic – Monthly

We bill you using a 1 month in advance policy, with the first payment date starting the day your subscription starts. The minimum subscription period is 12 months.

Censum Basic – Yearly

We bill you using a 1 month in advance policy, with the first payment date starting the day your subscription starts.

Censum Enterprise

We bill you the yearly license fee up front.

I want to change plans, now what?

We can easily accommodate changes to plans for you. Please contact our Sales Team to make this change.

What if my server numbers change rapidly?

We understand that some architectures dynamically allocate servers as peak traffic occurs. Please email our support team discuss! (This FAQ question relates to the illuminate and Censum as a Service products)

What data does the Illuminate / Censum as a Service Daemon send back?

NOTE: Censum as a Service is an illuminate module which can be run as a standalone service.  References to Illuminate can be substituted for Censum as a Service if you’re only using that module.

This FAQ documents the information that gets sent back from the daemon to the reporting agent.

Basic hardware information

  • CPU Model
  • Attached PCI Devices
  • Hard Disk Information
  • Total amount of RAM and Swap Space

Performance Analysis Metrics

  • Context Switch Counts
  • Time spent in User/System/Idle
  • Time spent reading and writing to disk
  • Number of processes blocked and runnable

Information required in order to show results

  • Execution Profiles, effectively stack traces with the amount of time spent in each method
  • Aggregated Garbage Collection statistics, e.g. Percentage of time spent paused, longest pause time
  • Machine Metrics for a specific problem, e.g. Amount of time spent writing to disk
  • Information about what locks your program is contending on, e.g. What’s causing a deadlock
What data does Censum send back?

Phone Home – Basic information

  • Censum Version
  • Censum installation UUID

When sending in a log (error report)

  • Censum’s error log
  • GC log that you attach
Illuminate / Censum as a Service minimum requirements

NOTE: Censum as a Service is an illuminate module which can be run as a standalone service.  References to Illuminate can be substituted for Censum as a Service if you’re only using that module.

The minimum requirements to run a Illuminate Daemon are:

  • Linux Kernel 2.6.0+ (or Solaris 10+ for Censum as a Service)
  • OpenJDK or Sun/Oracle JDK 1.7.0+

We recommend running the very latest version of OpenJDK or Sun/Oracle’s JDK.

The configuration required to run a Illuminate Daemon are:

  • /proc needs to be mounted
  • Illuminate Daemon needs to start as the same user as the Java/JVM application you are monitoring.
Censum minimum requirements

The minimum requirements to run Censum are:

  • Any operating system that can run Java (Linux, MS Windows, Mac OS X, Unix etc)
  • OpenJDK or Sun/Oracle JDK 1.6.0_10+

We recommend running the very latest version of OpenJDK or Sun/Oracle’s JDK.

The flags you need to set in order for Censum to make the most accurate analysis are:

  • -Xloggc:<path to GC log>
  • -XX:+PrintGCDetails
  • -XX:+PrintTenuringDistribution

e.g. java -Xloggc:./logs/gc.log -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintTenuringDistribution -jar foobar.jar

Can I have Illuminate / Censum as a Service hosted in a particular geographical location?

We understand that some users have legal (or other) requirements to fulfill. On a per user/organisation basis we can ensure that your service is hosted in particular geographical locations. Please contact our support team to arrange this.

Will I be charged Sales Tax (VAT/GST)?

Illuminate and Censum

If you are a UK or EU based billing organisation then you will be charged the VAT rate of your country. See the official HMRC VAT policy on this.

All other territories are exempt.

Censum Refund Policy

We hope you will be very happy with Censum. However, if you wish to return your copy of Censum for any reason, please contact us within 7 days of purchase at sales@jclarity.com to arrange deactivation of your software and refund of your payment.

How do I install Illuminate / Censum as a Service?

NOTE: Censum as a Service is an illuminate module which can be run as a standalone service.  References to Illuminate can be substituted for Censum as a Service if you’re only using that module.

Installing the Illuminate Service is a quick process. You can chose to use one of the two following options:

Public secure hosted service

When you first download the Illuminate package there is a README.txt file that gives you the full installation details.

Please contact support@jclarity.com if you have any difficulties.

Illuminate Dashboard

Users can then login to the public Dashboard and follow the tutorial from there!

Private hosted secure service

Please contact support@jclarity.com for specific instructions.

Do I get free upgrades when new versions come out?

Yes! Illuminate will automatically self-update and Censum will have that feature added shortly.

Can I book in a free demo and/or consultation?
